    • The Duke of York’s Community Initiative (DYCI) awards encourage community spirit, best practice and innovation in community projects and recognise outstanding achievements in project leadership in the county of Yorkshire.
  • What are the awards given for?
    • The awards are given to projects that can demonstrate real involvement and improvement in their communities, together with achievement of high practice standards.
  • What is the list of criteria?
    • Each Project should be able to demonstrate that:
    • It has been initiated, developed, and led by the community it serves.
    • It has made a significant impact on its community.- It has brought identifiable benefits to the community.
    • It has been successful in generating community spirit.
    • It has brought about an increase in community participation.
    • It has attracted resources.
    • It can provide an example to others and be willing to share its experience.
    • Who is eligible?
    • Projects are considered on merit, but the DYCI considers all kinds of projects that make a worthwhile contribution to their communities, regardless of the age, sex or race of those they work with. All projects must be based in the county of Yorkshire.
  • What about contributions made by individuals?
    • The Outstanding Community Leadership Awards are given to individuals who have shown outstanding achievement in community involvement.
  • Can you give some examples of types of projects that can be considered?
    • The DYCI can give awards for a wide variety of types of project, but examples include:
    • Transport services for the elderly
    • Elderly care services (e.g. meals and trips)
    • Disabled care services
    • Music Therapy services
    • Youth centres
    • Park and grassland improvements
    • Community information and advice services
    • Sports initiatives
    • Work with alcohol & drug abusers
    • Support for victims of crime
    • Work with children (e.g. after-school clubs, holiday playschemes)
