Friends of PHAB (Physically Disabled/Able Bodied) Leeds - West Yorkshire

Overview
Friends of PHAB volunteers enable people who suffer illness or disability opportunities to enjoy a social life by taking members to the weekly PHAB Club, and on outings and holidays.

Further Information
The PHAB Club in Leeds started in 1971 and continues to be as popular with over 100 regular members aged between 9 and 90 years. Members who suffer illness or disability are given opportunities to enjoy a social life along side able bodied friends.

The Friends of PHAB volunteers fund-raise and provide special transport for members, working to keep four good vehicles at all times. These are used to take members from home to the PHAB Club, and take them on outings and holidays.

Friends of PHAB volunteers aim to make members’ lives as near as possible to that of able bodied people. Able bodied ‘buddies’ share all our activities and help to make everything fun. In Leeds we have one big PHAB family.

We also aim at inclusion in the wider community.

Voluntary drivers are essential to our work. We have a few dedicated volunteer drivers but require more. They need to be in good health, CRB checked and undertake MIDAS and First Aid training.

Our fund-raising is on-going, from appeals to commerce and Trusts, sponsored events, or collecting with our disabled members in supermarkets. Help with fund-raising is always needed and appreciated.
