The Duke of York's Community Initiative 2005 Award HoldersOverview
Bradford Nightstop provides free overnight emergency accommodation to single people aged 16 to 25 in the homes of trained volunteers across the Bradford District.
Further Information
Bradford Nightstop began in 1993 as a local solution to a local problem –youth homelessness.
13 years later we still exist and unfortunately the need for emergency accommodation is still rising. Last year we had 800 referrals and this year looks to be at least on a par with that.
Young People need Nightstop for a variety of reasons but most commonly family breakdown. The young person stays with a host and then seeks advice from a housing related agency. Maybe another night is needed whilst temporary accommodation is found.
In 2006 we formed a partnership with Bradford City Centre Project. They have a 10 bed hostel but found they had a spare room they could utilise for overnight accommodation through our scheme. This means that young people deemed too high risk for volunteer homes can sometimes be placed in the hostel bed.
We are a small staff of 2 full time and 2 part time workers, based in Manningham. Our volunteers live across Bradford and Keighley and as far as Hebden Bridge, Halifax and Huddersfield.
Volunteers have three main roles
Please look on our website for more information or phone 01274 776888 to have an informal discussion about these roles
Our main funder is Bradford Council which presently funds almost half of our project. Please see our donations page on our website for more information. We welcome small or large financial donations. Cheques should be made payable to Bradford Nightstop.
