Business and Community Award

As the UK's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, the Duke of York works closely with many of the country’s leading companies. His interest in the world of business has led him to include a Business and Community Award as part of his Community Initiative.

The Business and Community Award category of the Duke of York Community Initiative Awards recognises the impact a business or organisation regardless of size can have on the communities they serve.

An award could be won by an individual, a company or an organisation with the assessors looking for a tangible commitment to support and improve local communities.

It’s possible that a single action could win but it’s more likely that a corporate strategy that has proven success in helping to support or to have an influence on the community will take the award. Equally, to obtain an award will not be just about a spending money but demonstrating an effective determination to engage with the local communities.

Assessment criteria

Assessment will be open to a degree of subjectivity but will consider questions such as:

  • Was the contribution to community engagement willingly introduced or forced by legislation or planning requirements?
  • Will it help to gain and retain public confidence?
  • Are the benefits lasting or short term?
  • Have there been any measurable differences within the organisation or targeted communities?
  • Has your community engagement program made a real difference?
  • Have other organisations followed your particular example?
